Are We Making Our Children Addicts?

Are We Making Our Children Addicts? Video Games, Sugar, TV Shows, Snacks, Toys...Our babies are becoming pheens! Constantly in pursuit of, and hungering for, some____.       www.urbandictionary.com defines "Pheen" (slang for fiend);  To urge for something,  not necessarily pheening       for drugs, but dope things in life. The begging and bargaining for more video game and TV time, or the plea for one more piece of candy, is not just childish behavior- it's more similar to the drug seeking behaviors you would find in addicts. That near panic kids sometimes exhibit when their favorite show is about to get shut off; or how they'll do  anything  for more video game time- even ungodly things like the dishes!      “Addiction” includes loss of control and an obsessive-compulsive pattern that takes on a life of its              own. Physiologic...changes leading to tolerance, withdrawal or sensitization may occur, and                    cognitive changes are common.

It's a bright New World

"... while recognizing differential aptitudes and talents, he holds that these are gifts from God to be used for the collective good." -Nelson Mandela on Gandhi        In our history as humankind, we have fought and struggled to survive and pass on our knowledge to the next generation, in order to see their lives be even slightly  easier than our own. Through the collective knowledge of our ancestors we have arrived at a point in time where humanity no longer has to struggle to exist. Our fight is over. We can cultivate all we need to live, and through this knowledge we have also gained a maturity of ages.        We have awareness of our place and impact. We know all the golden statues and riches of our country do not place us in higher standing. These illusions, like a child's imagination, are now seen as what they are. Pleasantries, comfort, but not real security, nothing we can take with us for sure. We know it doesn't make us more than we already are..

My Personal Mission, Vision and Values Statement

When starting a corporation, you write a Mission Statement, and also a Values and Vision statement. I decided to do this for myself- why not? How often do we sit down and define our lives like that?  So here is mine. I would love to hear from you, leave a comment--- What is your personal Mission, your life's Vision and Values? Mission: I walk this earth with a mission to empower others to use their God given strengths and attributes in a way that emboldens them and also fills a need in our earthly pursuits as a whole, without fear of isolation and inequity because of their unique or ingenious new perspectives. Vision: I envision a future for my children and all children, where each life is treasured simply for it's right to be here. Where no judgement is placed when the individual falls below some arbitrary median level of accomplishment, as we all do at times, but rather merit be placed on that individual's ability to contribute to our human endeavors, and respect be

The Law of Reciprocity

Wikipedia Defines:  Reciprocity (res-i-PROS-sity) or RECIPROCAL  ( ree-SIP-ro-cal)  As a social construct, in response to friendly actions, people are much nicer; conversely, in response to hostile actions they are much more nasty.  The Bible, in  Luke 6:38 says;  " Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you ." My Take On THE LAW OF RECIPROCITY  In communications studies, this "Law," is the foundation for forming new relationships and for healing the old ones as well. How do you know when too much is too much, or when you're not giving enough? The "Law of Reciprocity" (pronounced Resi-pros-ity) is a great way to measure your actions. When I call someone, we chat, we hang up and then....do I call again, do I wait? When I offer some personal life details to a new friend, do they counter with a story o

BE POSITIVE (from my 14 year old self)

BE POSITIVE Written by Rochelle Willis in the year 2000 Think positively, Look at the glass of milk 1/2 full instead of 1/2 empty. Take time to smell the roses, but keep the motivation to get things going. Make priorities you can handle. Work before play. Make sure you play. Go places. See things with friends and family. Meet new people and get to know your friends better. Be yourself. Everyone has different looks and personalities. You are unique. Get to know yourself, and Always, Always, be honest with yourself and others. Things always work out. Be a leader and a role model. Try your hardest in everything you do, and you'll be proud of who you are. Most Importantly... Be positive. then this, FROM MY 23 yr. old self..... _Try to Be Positive_ Why is negativity so appealing? It captures our attention like nothing else, and is the inspiration for so many of our actions. I can list right now over 50 words associated with negative emotions but damned if I can come up

Wake UP World

Wake UP World. Stop your dreamy slumber, where nightmares unfold and keep you under. Wake up, those demons have led you asunder. Your love and his mercy, in night, h as shined through, and here I AM, having Deja Vu Our waking dreams we're told to suppress Lest you find your self like the rest, of these day dreamy fools, these Naives, these ignorants, who see beyond hill tops, graves and cement. They see the dawn and its glorious Rise. Thy will be done, let your people survive the heart-shaking tremors of a human kind, reverberating through all, like a bell that has chimed, but forever ago, this bell was struck to a tune we all know, but have learned to mistrust. so Wake UP people. Now it is time, To take back our world, and claim Us as your kind, To plant and to reap, to eat and to sleep, with patience and waiting, yet called to our feet. Wake UP Humankind, These chills down my spine, did not come from fear, but from this place we did find, within our hearts, without our mind.

Dancing With Kings

My bare feet situated in the dirt, pebbles and pine needles strobing heat in red and orange waves, hugs my skin The wind playing in my hair like a cat with soft new yarn The timelessness of this scene stretching beyond history's time. Peacefully content and warm, those I love, sleep near nothing lacking, nothing needed, we have been provided for And as I voice my praise, in gratitude of God's mercy My sights are directed to the towering Kings of this forest. Silence. Utter silence as if the world were put on mute, my gaze transfixed on these massive statues, and I see. The wind, I know to be as one animal, melting into their stone they danced in silent magnitude against the glowing night sky. My mouth opened to no words which could justify I could only smile deeply and feel the sudden hot rain I laughed and my heart danced with those Kings, in the oneness of the wind, which has became my breathe. Rochelle 2013
I began to explain my earth-shattering, paradigm shifting experience; where I met God, to my Facebook audience. Ha, ok, first mistake. First response, from my sister; "????? What Happened." Shit...how do I explain that.

Self-Inflicted Womb

I can pass it over, step away or set it down... ..."and anytime I please." But what truth do I breath? How do I prove, and better, to whom... I am not a prisoner in this self inflicited womb. What happens to my reserve, my nerve to kick the devil behind? I can... anytime I please... ...sit face-to face in fear of what I shall do when he leaves. My cerebral sidekick, who keeps me whole, will never call out or reach even one decipal. Though short and sorry when it comes to brass, he is as light on the righteuos path. His kinisthetic brother. Feeds and Devours. Just as water can save or destroy a flower; Filling my mind with no charm and less wit. Only raw sensation, leaving bitter grit. Into my surreptitious silence they invade. Was my mind ever mine to be made? While one fuels the fire, which I use to keep safe, in confidence the other patiently waits. Were they always there, the creators of my Individ-duality? Or am I the one who gave birth to this personality?

Let your passion lead you

I've heard, "Follow your passion." But often passion does not open the door to opportunity. It's part of the key, but why am I picking on this phrase? Synonyms for passion include: fervor , obsession , infatuation , enthusiasm , zeal , craze  and other words that do not invite the picture of a driven, level-headed individual working toward their dream.    Following your emotionally crazed and blinded self into your passion is not always wise! (We've all had those relationships, right?). As for "following" such a thing, well I never liked that word "follow" anyway....So I would like to re-coin the phrase if I may. "Let your passion lead you."   My recent venture into the business world, opening "like GrMa clean,", taught me a tremendous amount, mostly about myself. We all need these overwhelming, frustrating, victorious and humbling experiences at least once in life. These sludgy "learning" curves come wh

My best work

Of all my creative and poetic ambitions, motherhood is definitely my favorite, and most successful.

Writer's Block

It would be fitting that I began blogging, years ago, with a post about "Writing." I guess when all else fails, write about writing itself, or about becoming a writer. It's not that I've had nothing to write about, good god there's volumes to cover for the past few months of my adventure called life. The same block I have for writing is what I have in my life now though. Partly, this is a new beginning. New friends, new home, new work- pretty much starting from scratch. I think anyone would feel a bit stumped. The other side to this is less natural to me. Fear. I am Rochelle! Tenacious, unstoppable! So- Me, afraid? Well, yes! F#%_ing terrified actually. New work? New Home? Friends? It's all unsettling. So what does this have to do with writing? My fear in writing- or at least, what stops me from doing it- is the same fear I feel in life. Fear of Failure. Once you've been scorched by failure, and have that acid taste left in your mouth, you never want t

Falling Away

Let it all fall away Passively, quietly. Do not cry out or force and do not be numb but feel, What you have every right to feel. Now, this is the point Where your trust in God, must be immense. Trust. Let it all fall away.

Coins Turned

She said "But, I want to show you some signs." As one glass after the other fell to the floor, we looked at each other Knowing we'd been seen and feeling the scene to come. The signs were posted everywhere that night. Clearly read and certainly understood, pointing Firm and correct The path had become dangerous, as if it had not been all along. Tossing coins to summon an answer already known. He spoke "There are no signs to exits passed," They turned to the clouds Thunder called and struck down its point, a point well taken. Now there is quiet, in ourselves we converse Too scared to draw a map, though we've been here before. With the signs and his light we took on this movement, in action we moved in faith through the dark.
