Avenues of Hope

In the desperation of communities struck by poverty, war and crime around the world, occassionally there arises a narrow avenue of hope.

A way out. 

In Samoa young men dream to become NFL stars. In Compton they dream to become famous rappers. In Dagastan, they dream to win a UFC belt. 

It only takes one brave soul to challenge the status quo... to believe they can make it.

If only a few succeed in escaping a previously impossible circumstance, then the dam breaks open.

The avenue of possibilities begins to light up. 

Like when the four minute mile was eventually broken. It was once a feat thought to be impossible for the human body. 

Suddenly it became possible. Runner after runner beat the record. So it is in these communities, it only took one person daring enough to try.

It only takes one person to believe they can, to bring hope to an entire community or an entire nation.

Turn your head now baby Just Spit Me Out

Feeling underappreciated and saddened at how it is possible to pour your heart out, give your time and all you have to give to another person and have them spit in your face. I had the epiphany that this is how God must feel when his children sin. He pours his unending love out for us, he gives of all he is For Us and we spit in the face of the almighty and go about doing contradictory and counterproductive things- and he keeps loving us all the same.  I will continue to feel unappreciated and taken from, as long as I continue to take for granted the blessings in my life. Once I learn to give back to God in appreciation and gratitude, the same way I would give back to anyone who would go out of their way for me- then I will know what being loved is meant to feel like.

We've made this trip so many times around, it makes me dizzy.This beautiful, tragic, spinning kaleidoscope I've seen. Through your eyes, deep, in ancient times until the new, It was always you. Through the black holes of the windows to my soul. Something has started, you must be feeling this too! The tune has changed, we danced so long but now we sing. Dancing With Kings

My bare feet situated in the dirt, pebbles and pine needles strobing heat in red and orange waves, hugs my skin The wind playing in my hair like a cat with soft new yarn The timelessness of this scene stretching beyond history's time. Peacefully content and warm, those I love, sleep near nothing lacking, nothing needed, we have been provided for And as I voice my praise, in gratitude of God's mercy My sights are directed to the towering Kings of this forest. Silence. Utter silence as if the world were put on mute, my gaze transfixed on these massive statues, and I see. The wind, I know to be as one animal, melting into their stone they danced in silent magnitude against the glowing night sky.
