Morning Person!

Image
If this question seems ridiculous to you, then you're probably not AM challenged like me. You probably wake up to greet the magnificent sun and the glorious new day with plans in mind and set your feet to the cool floor with purpose and ambition. I, however, sit in a sleep-drunken stupor, staring at my freezing cold floor with questions like, "What is going on?", and "Why am I awake again?" In my morning delirium I am a math whiz apparently- quickly calculating how many times I can hit snooze before my alarm clock just gives up- or how many minutes it really  takes  myself and three children to get ready. I have turned down jobs which required arriving before 9am and I even dropped out of the race for Class President once, when I heard they met early, before school hours- I simply walked out of the meeting and tore up my flyers. I DO NOT exist before 7am- and then you'd only be meeting my stunt double (we'll call her "Vicky)- she makes me

To the Ledge

We've made this trip so many times around, it makes me dizzy. This beautiful, tragic, spinning kaleidoscope I've seen. Through your eyes, deep, in ancient times until the new, It was always you. Through the black holes of the windows to my soul. Something has started, you must be feeling this too! The tune has changed, we danced so long but now we sing. All the songs on the radio are beginning to sound the same. The people I talk to and the signs I see are making a strong impression on me. Larger than I could have ever believed. I could argue and convince, we are as we used to be. But my soul knows different, and the rest of the world is with me. You say you want to climb every mountain, visit every creek ... because one day this earth will perish and be inherited unto the meek. This all moves along at the speed of sound, such a powerful force. It's all you and me, and everyone with us. Should we jump up in praise, Or fall to our knees? Bringing to rest the su

What Do You Say

As I raise three children on my own, my daily vocabulary consists of "No," "Bring that here," "Put that down," and "What do you say?" No one inquires how I am feeling, or what my plans are. No one offers to assist with the daily chores. No one discusses the world events or local news. My lips stay sealed, my stare remains distant.  The occasional friendly call seems to always close with a sigh- I just have nothing to talk about. People ask, "What you been up to?" I wish I had something to share. Something to bubble up into friendly chatter. But my new refrigerator just doesn't carry any conversational weight, nor does the pile of laundry waiting to be folded. My future plans and ambitions don't glitter against this backdrop. They seem like the fairy tales I read, cute and fantastical. Ridiculous because what is a goal for tomorrow when I can't even complete the tasks for today, the simple ones. And if I did, WHO CARES? N

Are We Making Our Children Addicts?

Are We Making Our Children Addicts? Video Games, Sugar, TV Shows, Snacks, Toys...Our babies are becoming pheens! Constantly in pursuit of, and hungering for, some____.       www.urbandictionary.com defines "Pheen" (slang for fiend);  To urge for something,  not necessarily pheening       for drugs, but dope things in life. The begging and bargaining for more video game and TV time, or the plea for one more piece of candy, is not just childish behavior- it's more similar to the drug seeking behaviors you would find in addicts. That near panic kids sometimes exhibit when their favorite show is about to get shut off; or how they'll do  anything  for more video game time- even ungodly things like the dishes!      “Addiction” includes loss of control and an obsessive-compulsive pattern that takes on a life of its              own. Physiologic...changes leading to tolerance, withdrawal or sensitization may occur, and                    cognitive changes are common.

"... while recognizing differential aptitudes and talents, he holds that these are gifts from God to be used for the collective good." -Nelson Mandela on Gandhi        In our history as humankind, we have fought and struggled to survive and pass on our knowledge to the next generation, in order to see their lives be even slightly  easier than our own. Through the collective knowledge of our ancestors we have arrived at a point in time where humanity no longer has to struggle to exist. Our fight is over. We can cultivate all we need to live, and through this knowledge we have also gained a maturity of ages.        We have awareness of our place and impact. We know all the golden statues and riches of our country do not place us in higher standing. These illusions, like a child's imagination, are now seen as what they are. Pleasantries, comfort, but not real security, nothing we can take with us for sure. We know it doesn't make us more than we already are..

My Personal Mission, Vision and Values Statement

When starting a corporation, you write a Mission Statement, and also a Values and Vision statement. I decided to do this for myself- why not? How often do we sit down and define our lives like that?  So here is mine. I would love to hear from you, leave a comment--- What is your personal Mission, your life's Vision and Values? Mission: I walk this earth with a mission to empower others to use their God given strengths and attributes in a way that emboldens them and also fills a need in our earthly pursuits as a whole, without fear of isolation and inequity because of their unique or ingenious new perspectives. Vision: I envision a future for my children and all children, where each life is treasured simply for it's right to be here. Where no judgement is placed when the individual falls below some arbitrary median level of accomplishment, as we all do at times, but rather merit be placed on that individual's ability to contribute to our human endeavors, and respect be

The Law of Reciprocity

Wikipedia Defines:  Reciprocity (res-i-PROS-sity) or RECIPROCAL  ( ree-SIP-ro-cal)  As a social construct, in response to friendly actions, people are much nicer; conversely, in response to hostile actions they are much more nasty.  The Bible, in  Luke 6:38 says;  " Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you ." My Take On THE LAW OF RECIPROCITY  In communications studies, this "Law," is the foundation for forming new relationships and for healing the old ones as well. How do you know when too much is too much, or when you're not giving enough? The "Law of Reciprocity" (pronounced Resi-pros-ity) is a great way to measure your actions. When I call someone, we chat, we hang up and then....do I call again, do I wait? When I offer some personal life details to a new friend, do they counter with a story o
